Job Description:
The Manager of Business Development and Marketing will primarily oversee the creation and execution of services and programs—both direct and indirect—that foster new job creation by attracting new businesses and expanding existing ones in Madera County.
This position will prioritize the development of content for online platforms, strategically designed to elevate the profile of Madera County and its cities, thereby enhancing their appeal to businesses and developers seeking investment opportunities.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess a robust background in social media content creation, along with intermediate proficiency in photography and videography, including both shooting and editing. Additionally, familiarity with website and graphic design tools is essential. A genuine passion for local government and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and engage with diverse audiences are also critical attributes for success in this role.
The Manager of Business Development and Marketing will report directly to and receive supervision from the Executive Director of the MCEDC.
Outline of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Executive Director in launching a county-wide business and industry recruitment and expansion program focused on communication, public relations, customer service, and community involvement.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director to develop, proofread, edit, and refine a broad range of written content for MCEDC.
- Works with the Executive Director to create content for social media platforms.
- Updates the MCEDC website.
- Responsible for the recruiting of various businesses and taking the lead in following up on prospective leads to facilitate the expansion of Madera County.
- Coordinates and arranges site tours and special events.
- Interacts with business prospects to develop and determine their requirements, while removing obstacles that may impede relocation.
- Assists with social and earned media monitoring and reporting.
- Maintains a Lead Management Database and creates monthly lead reports.
- Produces marketing materials for prospect recruitment and prepares proposals for new business and industry prospects.
- Runs Marketing Missions – cold calls, mail & email campaigns, sets appointments and schedules meetings.
- Works closely with member communities to develop economic development strategies and programs for recruiting new business and industry.
- Aids in developing the MCEDC marketing program.
- Participates in various events as a representative of the MCEDC.
- Lead on gathering information and responding to requests from businesses, developers, and county and city partners.
- Creates press releases, newsletters and runs media campaigns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Understanding of the processes and tools for creating graphics, photos, and videos, as well as managing website content.
- Skilled in creating and editing graphics and videos for social media platforms.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of emerging trends to develop compelling and creative products that function across various platforms.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, tight deadlines, and changing project requirements.
- Availability to travel for events and meetings.
- Previous experience with client services.
- Background in marketing and sales, demonstrating success in creating strategies that enhance brand visibility that drive revenue growth.
- Knowledge of state and local government operations and economic development operations are a plus
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Business, Marketing, Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Community Leadership, Graphic Design, Communications or a related field.
- At least two years of full-time experience in a business, government, private/non-profit organization where client service was the primary focus.
Other: Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation is required.

Compensation: $51,000 to $61,000 plus generous benefits package.
